Stockholm Jazz survives
2009-01-13 21:50:00
Stockholm Jazz Festival has finacial problems. I know, almost everyone have that these days. But the wonderful Swedish Jazz festival in Stockholm has been fighting with finacial problems for ages. Now Swedish news reports that the festival got financial backup from the company Jensen Invest AB. Last summer Van Morrison, Mary J Blige and Patti Smith played there. I love this festival just because it is a mixed festival with jazz and rock and pop. Some peolpe are arguing against that and want a genuine jazz festival. But not me. I am happy about the festival just as it is. Cross my thumbs it will continue like that with the new owners. Here is a song with Patti Smith from the Press Conference summer 2008: Other blogs - in Swedish about this news: Spadtaget and my Swedish blog Kulturbloggen. Concert with Glasvegas sold out in two minutes in Stockholm
2009-01-12 12:50:00
Glasvegas is one of the most hyped band last year. In Sweden they are so great. Last week we got information that the band will play in Sweden. But only blogs have reported about that. The old medias have kept silence, no word about it there. Today the tickets to the Concert in Stockholm was sold out in less then two minutes. Now, some hours after: you can buy tickets for ten times the original price. That´s weird. I wrote about in in ny Swedish blogg, Kulturbloggen. In Sweden, the visitors and readers of Aftonbladet, the Swedish biggest tabloid, have voted and the winner is Freedie Mercury. He is outstanding, ackording to the sweden. Rock star Prince says he wants to release three albums in 2009 - without the help of a record label. The musician told the LA Times he was in ?final negotiations? with a major US retailer to distribute the music, which will also be made available online. From BBC. His last album, Planet Earth, was given away free 2007 in the UK with The Mail On Sunday newspaper, as I reported in my Swedish blog. Some of the new recordings have been previewed on a website called mplsound. BBC reports that Prince was pressing ahead without the support of a record label because “the gatekeepers have to change”. Is Spotify the Ipod killer?
2008-12-29 00:02:00
Is Spotify the Ipod killer? Maybe the peak for devices as ipods is over? Who want to own the music any longer? Since Spotify was I dont talk about iphone. That device is a success. Konami, the Japanese game developer, develops now games for ipod/iphone. For Christmas I read about a lot of nice apps for iphone, suggested as Christmas gifts. But ipod: the main idea behind this device it so own music. Who wants to own music any longer? What we want is to listen to the music and that the musicians get paid for their job. Spotify and such streaming music stores are so right. I wrote about in in my Swedish blog, too.
One day YouTube will buy Warner
2008-12-22 20:37:00
All music licensed of Warner Music Group will disappear from YouTube. The Wall Street Journal: Warner Pulls Music From YouTube Warner Music Group Corp. said it began removing its songs and videos from Google Inc.’s YouTube videosharing site this weekend, after the two sides failed to renegotiate a licensing deal. For now, the decision doesn’t appear likely to escalate into a broader battle between YouTube and the music industry, as people close to the other major labels said they didn’t anticipate taking down their content in the immediate future. Still, the dispute reflects frustration within media companies over how little ad revenue is generated by their deals with YouTube. Paid Content blogs about it: Warner Music Group Corp.’s videos and songs began disappearing from the YouTube videosharing Web site early Saturday after talks to renegotiate a licensing deal stalled. That goes for all of the content once licensed by Warner Music Group (NYSE: WMG) to YouT...
Morrissey, AC/DC and ZZ Top - coming to Sweden 2009
2008-12-18 20:25:00
Music-lovers in Sweden have some great concerts to look forward next year: AC/DC is very popular in Sweden, their two concerts in Stockholm were sold out in half an hour - and this week the tickets to the concert in Gothenburg was sold out in less than two hours. But: rumours say that more tickets will be available on Monday. The old funny men with long beards from ZZ Top are coming two Sweden 2009. But, just to a small town named Karlstad. Alright, this town is said always being in a sunny mood. But: ZZ Top is a legendary band. They should be booked to a concert in Stockholm. Once, when I visited US, a big music store with records had one apartment just for alternative artists. A sign said: Morrissey is not to be find here any more, his is not independent any longer. Anyhow, Morrissey has a lot of Swedish fans. And they look forward his coming concerts: three concerts in Sweden 2009: 18 of June in Borås. 22 of June in Gothenburg and 24 of June in Stockholm. Dan Dubno about how to become President in the US
2008-11-13 08:59:00
Dan Dubno is a journalist, 6 time Emmy winning TV anchor and american election commentator. He is talking at Sime now. It was not only a Internet campaign. The campaing helped people to connect to other people in their neighborhood who shared their views. The campaign got people active, and many will continue to be active in political issues. Obama where everywhere: Facebook, MySpace, Youtubem Facebook, Blackplanet … YouTube had an important part in the campaign, not only for campainging for Obama but also to make parodies about McCain and Sarah Palin. All funny films from Saturday live were used a lot. Change.gov will be used during the change period. Dan Dubno: What disturbed us journalists was that the two candidats all the time held the same speeech. Everywhere. Nothing now came. But a new comedy journalism was born. In China most of the Internet models and social medias are chinese developed while in India they use mostly English-spoken and american tools as MSN. Both these two markets have a lot of possibilities. Although so many chineses use Internet today it is still only 20 percent of the inhabitants using it. In India the mobile devices are very hot. That some facts from one of many interesting seminars at Day 1 (November 12th 2008) at Sime (Scandinavian Interactive Media Event) in Stockholm. Sime is Northern Europe’s largest conference about digital opportunities, technology, communication and entrepreneurship. The title and description for this seminar was: What are the other 6 Billion guys doing? I like this: Study: Google does a brain good. That´s from CNN: A study at the University of California, Los Angeles, measured brain activity of older adults as they searched the Web. … To study what brains look like when people are searching the Internet, Small recruited two groups of people: one that had minimal computer experience and another that was Web savvy. Members of the technologically advanced group had more than twice the neural activation than their less experienced counterparts while searching online. Supergrass to Stockholm
2008-10-24 21:52:00
Supergrass comes to Stockholm 11 of November 2009. I will not miss this play. Supergrass are an English alternative rock band from Oxford. The band consists of brothers Gaz (guitar and lead vocals) and Rob Coombes (keyboards), Danny Goffey (drums and backing vocals), and Mick Quinn (bass and backing vocals). The main trio formed in 1993 in Oxford with only Rob Coombes playing supporting role as keyboard player. The band released their first single “Caught by the Fuzz” in October 1994 on the Parlophone label. The single reached number 43 in the UK Singles Chart, but failed to chart in the US. Supergrass followed up with their debut full-length album I Should Coco in May 1995. The album reached number one in the UK where it stayed for three weeks. The album led the band to four newcomer awards in the same year the album was released. “Alright” was released from the album which reached number two in UK Singles Chart. This is the highest chart position the band h...
Division of Laura Lee is back
2008-10-24 15:07:00
Division of Laura Lee is a Swedish alternative band with a very own special sound. Their first two albums are more hardcore and punk, but the new album - “Violence is Timeless” - is released the coming week (29 of October 2008). The music reviews hava paid their tribute to the new album already. After their last album and the tour the four members in the band were rather fed up with each other - so they took a break. But now they have worked together and created the new album and they are on tour again. Next week they will play in Stockholm. I met them today for an interview for my Swedish blog. My friend and photographer Anders will take some Photos of the band this afternoon. Sure, Division of Laura Lee is back - better than ever. Two concerts with Metallica sold out in half an hour in Stockholm
2008-10-20 12:42:00
The two concerts with Metallica sold out in half an hour in Stockholm. One friend of mine sat by his computer and tried to buy tickets for his daughter. But he lost, he did not get any tickets. I might get one from a business connection I have. If I get this, I will let my friend buy it for the original price to his daughter. I and my family has nothing against Metallica, but they are not our favourites. There are hundreds other bands we want to see more. Yes, we have tickets to AC/DC. Their concert in Sweden was sold out in eleven minutes. But the way: I heard that many fans of Metallica have been quing since Friday - but did not get tickets. The whole Killers UK tour was sold out in two and a half hours
2008-10-16 07:35:00
In Sweden the right wing goverment suggests a law that will give record labels right to order the internet providers to search for filesharing people. But maybe the filesharing is not a threat to the musicians. The interest for live concerts is rising. As today, all tickets to the AC/DC play in Stockholm was sold out in eleven minutes. In UK the nine concerts in the tour of the Killers were sold out in two and a half hours. From BBC: Tickets for next year’s Killers UK tour sold out in two and a half hours when they went on sale on Friday morning. The band are playing nine venues starting with two dates at London’s O2 Arena on 23 and 24 February. The 150,000 tickets to see the Las Vegas group went on sale at 10am and were all snapped up by 12.30pm. Wombats live at Debaser, Stockholm
2008-10-16 07:35:00
We saw the Liverpool-band this week in their gig at Debaser in Stockholm. People did like them very much and danced and sang to the band. The only bad thing was: the play was to short. Only one hour. I suppose it is because they have not released more than one album yet. We wrote about the gig in our Swedish blog, Kulturbloggen. Andra bloggar om: Wombats, musicvideo, Stockholm, Debaser
I love The Hidden Cameras
2008-09-01 22:17:00
The Hidden Cameras - a band I had not listened to before. But always in a music festival I find new a artists. At the Popaganda festival in Stocholm this weekend I saw The Hidden Cameras, and I just love them. They are so crazy. They jumped and also the cello player jumped. How could he? Another new band for me during Popaganda days was the hiphop band from Brazil, Bonde do Role. I think most of the people danced and danced during their performance. But for me, sometimes, after three songs with this style it is enough. It is fun - but I got tired of it. In my Swedish blog I have posted more about Popaganda. And here too. No to whippings and executions of worker activists in Iran
2008-08-19 02:04:00
A very urgent message came to me today from Labourstart: On May Day this year in Iran, two brave women - Sousan Razani and Shiva Kheirabadi - participated in open celebrations of the international workers’ holiday. The regime considers this to be a crime and the women were arrested. They have just been sentenced to 15 lashes apiece, as well as four months in prison. They’re not alone. In a new and ferocious wave of repression directed against worker activists, a Kurdish teacher (Farzad Kamangar) has been sentenced to death. Three men (Abdullah Khani, Seyed Qaleb Hosseini, and Khaled Hosseini) have been sentenced to 120 lashes between them, as well as prison sentences. Afshin Shams has been arrested and awaits trial. Meanwhile, Mansour Osanloo, leader of the Tehran bus workers, has languished in jail since July 2007. Enough is enough. The Iranian regime must now receive a loud and clear message from the international labour movement that we have not forgotten our sisters ...
Fidel Castro - a blogger
2008-08-15 03:57:00
Fidel Castro is a blogger. He blogs here, since some months. No, the 82 years old former president of Cuba does not blog about his food or his health. He blogs mainly about political issues and is said to be rather outspoken. He also shows videos in his blog/homepage when he has famous guests. It is said that the government cant ignore his blog. Here is one article signed Fidel Castro Ruz. (I am not so skilled in Spanish, so I cant say if it is a real blogpost or just an introduction for his homepage.) It is really interesting what is happening now. In this way a lot more people can hear his thoughts. I think more former politicians should give their opinions this way. No, Fidel Castro does not have comments in his blog, so it is not really any debate going on in his blog. If you want to visit a Cuban blog with a lot of comments: then visit Generation Y. She has 1.000 comments on each post. There is a real live debate going on. For example this post: Todo por una cerveza has now mor...
Why Twitter has not failed
2008-08-15 03:57:00
I am possible to follow in Twitter. I am not a big Twitterian, I prefer Jaiku and maybe Facebook too. But I am to be found at Twitter too. Of course. Twitter has often technical problems and are off. But that does not matter at all, Twitter users still hang on. That´s why Twitter has not failed. Because of the users. Tech Crunch: Why Twitter Hasn?t Failed: The Power Of Audience Twitter works and enjoys such strong attachment because it provides real-time access to a well-defined audience. The backlog of all previous tweets is a guarantee of permanence (you can even search it) and you can catch up on it anytime. As a result, people use Twitter because they have an idea of who will see their lightweight messages and this sense of audience is reinforced by @replies, re-tweets and references in future conversations (online and offline). Designing for the sense of Audience is a powerful tool to create cohesion and a sense of utility among users of a service. This lesson from Twitter can ...

A very stupid idea. Some australian politician want the Cusom officers to seach in travellers ipods for illegal music: From News.com.au: The push for the unprecedented searches of travellers’ laptops and MP3 players has been revealed in a leaked discussion paper relating to a treaty being negotiated by the Federal Government. I wonder: how many songs will count for being jailed? And what about iriver and zen creative? Is it just ipods? And do the Custom officers dont have other more important missions? Maybe the idea that Apple can take away programs from your iphone is a part in this mission too?
Fleet Foxes and Neil Young - oh I wish I was there
2008-08-10 14:35:00
I love to go to music festivals. But I could go to Gothenburg these days for the festival Way Out West. Yeah, I wish I could. Neil Young played and the music writers in the Swedish newspapers all give that gig high marks. The youngest 62 years old man, they call him in Aftonbladet. But even more the music writers seem to like Fleet Foxes. Thats a band I listened to for my first time this summer, then they released their first album. I like them very much. Some say they are lookalike to band as Band of Horses - and yes: I must agree. For me thats no problem, I do like Band of Horses too. But in an interview I can read that Fleet Foxes dont like to be looked upon as a copycat to Band of Horses. Fleet foxes - White winter hymnal Related: Kristin Lundell about Fleet Foxes. 2008-06-29 22:01:00
First day of Accelerator, a music festival in Stockholm, had four bands playing. The festival has a nice and friendly atmospere and it does not matter where you stand or sit, you feel you are rather close to the band anywhere. First to play was Johnny Flynn from UK. He is both actor and musician. He had his sister on the stage too. She was supporting Johnny with her song. Next on the stage was Wild Beasts. They are very good singers, you know falsett singer. And not only one singer in the band. But the namn on the band, is it not the wrong name? They are goog, but not especially wild. About to be wild: the next band was wild: Foals from Oxford. Their singer is sometimes said to be a young and angry Robert Smith (from The Cure). Maybe. But a lot more angry. The singer in Foals were going down to the audicence during the play and he was kicking on the drums after the play. The last and final band was Band of Horses. The lyric and nostalgic band is so GREAT. And the best thing: they ha...

Find Sebastian Tellier
2008-06-19 13:41:00
Sebastian Teller Eurovision Song Contest has one great opportunity: to find and discover artists from many European countries. As for example: this year I found Sebastian Tellier from France. Some facts from Wikipedia about this wonderful musician: Sébastien Tellier (born 1975 in Paris) is a French singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He is currently signed to Record Makers, a French independent record label. He sings in English, French and Italian. Tellier’s first album, L’incroyable Vérité (The Incredible Truth), was released in 2001. Tellier went on tour with Air in support of the album and was joined on stage by world-renowned theremin player Pamelia Kurstin. L’incroyable Vérité is a pop album featuring styles from lo-fi electronica to bizarre cabaret tunes. Its sleeve featured Tellier in full evening dress on the front, while the back of jacket had a shot of him cavorting in a playboy’s pool. He instructed listeners only to listen to the album b...
A walk through the mess and dirt, ending up at Queens of Stone Age
2008-06-17 16:16:00
Where the Action is - that´s a music festival in Stockholm, Sweden. I was there yesterday. It was sort of a competition between the Swedish national team in Fotball (soccer) and the rock music. 6 PM the Swedish national team had a match against Spain and in the area of the festival you could see the match on huge screens. A lot of the visitors at the festival choosed to see the match. So the band Rival Scools, which were playing at the same time, had mostly people wathing who did not care about fotball or really loved Rival Scools. The Swedes lost the match and the visitors went back to the stages to see Dinosaur JR and the rest of the bands this evening. I filmed the area after the game: and how messy and dirty and careless sport people can be. I made a walk through the mess, but ended upp at the stage where Queens of Stone Age played. Enjoy and maybe thats the point: Leave the mess for the rock: And here J Mascis, proparly the best guitar player in the world: Swedish newspaper a...
China disturbs new regulations prior to Olympic Games

Disturbing new regulations prior to Olympic Games, increased control in Sichuan Reporters Without Borders is alarmed by the introduction of new rules aimed at reinforcing controls over Chinese “fixers” working for foreign journalists and over all foreigners visiting China during the Olympic Games. The organisation also condemns an increase in police controls of foreign journalists trying to cover protests by parents whose children were killed when schools collapsed in the Sichuan earthquake. From reporters without borders. And Swedish media report that China is spending more and more on weapon and military forces. But, on the other hand: in Sweden: the right wing governing politicians want to introduce a law that gives the Swedish military forcers right to read all e-mails.
