Single release closing in
2009-01-09 00:33:00
The Magical Machines single is due for release next week. We're actually not sure exactly which day it will be available on iTunes and Klicktrack, but we'll let you know as soon as we know.To celebrate the release, Wonderland records is throwing a fabulous party at Sticky Fingers in Gothenburg on the 13th of December. We will play, along with fellow Wonderland record releasing artists Jesper and Convoj. A release party for three bands at the same time! :)And as if that's not enough, you're in for an early christmas present if you join the party early. Everyone who shows up before Jesper starts his gig at 8pm will get one of those much sought after Spotify invites! Considering that you'll have to fork out 99SEK a month for Spotify without an invite, this alone will give you your money's worth.More details coming shortly.
Vintage gear
2009-01-09 00:33:00
Here's the clip mentioned in the last post, Thomas playing the Minimoog, which in turn is placed on top of the Mellotron. No doubt it would have been easier to use software instruments, and no doubt most people wouldn't have heard the difference, but this is way cooler... :)Btw, the track being recorded is a new song called The Morning After, written by drummer Nicola, with some joint efforts on the lyrics with me.
A very productive weekend
2009-01-09 00:33:00
We had a fantastic weekend in Svenska Grammofonstudion, and got a lot of work done. Petter and Nico pretty much nailed it, in the first day we had all six bass/drum tracks laid down! The Sunday was spent recording lead vocals, some additional vocals by Lisa, a few keyboard tracks, and a trumpet (huge thanks to Johan "Lillebror" Angenete for popping in to do this on extremely short notice!).The keyoard collection at SGS is really amazing, and Thomas was like a child at Christmas, among all the vintage gear. He finally settled on the Mellotron and the Minimoog, both ancient relics (look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about, it's way cool). I'm trying to upload a short clip of him playing the Minimoog. If I succeed, I will put it up here. If not, well, you'll just have to wait for the album.Hope to catch some of you in Malmö on Friday!
Recording again
2009-01-09 00:33:00
This weekend we're entering Svenska Grammofon Studion in Gothenburg, to start recording the last few tracks for our debut. As you may know, and as we've written here before, the long-awaited EP is morphing into a full-length album, due to us signing to Wonderland Records. We'll be recording six tracks. Two of them have been premiered at previous gigs (We Don't Want Your Help and Kill Your Darlings), but four are brand new, two tracks by me (Johan) and two tracks by Nicola. We're quite excited about the new stuff, and we're sure you'll be too. :)Next week we're off for Malmö, yay! Catch us at Nya Tröls next Friday, when we're teaming upp with the excellent Emerald Park, as special guests at their release party. We're playing a full set, which will also be the first live gig featuring Jesper, our brand new, pretty boy guitar player.More details about the gig can be found at our Facebook event or Myspace profile. See you there!
New gigs coming up - Malmö and Göteborg
2009-01-09 00:33:00
Yay, SFB are about to hit the road again! On November 14th we'll be playing in Malmö, and on December 13th it's time for dear old Gothenburg.More details to come, mark the dates in your calendar until then!

Signed to Wonderland Records!
2009-01-09 00:33:00
We have all heard the stories:Record companies are the roots of all evil in the world.Managers are put on this planet to suck artists dry and decieve them in any way they can.The music business is dead. And now over to the latest Swedish for Beginners- news:We have signed a record deal with Swedish independent label Wonderland Records. The single "Magical Machines" will be released by the end of October and our debut album in February 2009.We have signed a management deal with Sebastian Hess, owner of Wonderland Records. We will, in close collaboration with Sebastian and Wonderland, do our utmost to prove to the world that good music is good music and that good music will survive any economical crash, any recession and any US election.Swedish for beginners: "jävligt bra nyheter!" = f*ckin great news!
Losing Petter
2009-01-09 00:33:00
Saturday night at Sticky Fingers, and as usual, when Petter is a bit drunk, we lose him. Hope he made it home. Anyway, the band - Universal Poplab - were great, check them out if you haven't already. Brilliant synthpop. And, of course, you're all eager to see our new guitar player, Jesper. So without further ado, boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, here he is:
Crying blood
2009-01-09 00:33:00
A while back we had a post here on the SFB-blog about the mighty Mike Patton and his Mondo Cane project. He has since been doing some touring, performing the set with different orchestras, and a few weeks ago he hit Malmö, Sweden. Which is wonderful, of course. Except that none of us could make it ("us" meaning the MP fans of SFB, me, Thomas, and Petter). Which is a disaster. I've been crying blood, consoling myself with this beautiful live recording. Enjoy!Update: Alas, the video has been removed. But you know how to do a search on YouTube, right?Swedish for beginners: "smörsångare" = crooner
What was the last thing the drummer said?
2009-01-09 00:33:00
We promised you some exciting news a while back, and we're busy making it come true. For now, let's just say that the long awaited EP will probably be a full-length instead! Lots of new songs in the works, not only written by me (Johan) but also by our drummer Nico. (What was the last thing the drummer said? "Hey, why don't we play one of my songs?")It's so much fun mocking drummers. :DSwedish for beginners: "fullängdare" - full-length album
Who needs guitars anyway?
2008-09-19 17:01:00
As some of you might or might not heard, our guitarist Frej announced that he was leaving SFB after the Springbreak gig. No hard feelings but he definitely left a gap in SFB.We've been looking for a replacement during this summer and now we're glad to introduce the new guitarist of SFB: Jesper Jäderkvist. You can listen to some of his own stuff at www.myspace.com/jjaderNow SFB is definitely back on track and will soon announce more exiting news.Today's Swedish for beginners: "audition" = audition
Magical Machines at Hdfest.com
2008-09-19 17:01:00
Yes, vacation is really over and it's time to get back to work. Some great news: the video for Magical Machines is featured over at the film site hdfest.com. Be sure to check it out, they've given the video and the song a lot of praise. :)We also have some exciting news to tell you about the upcoming release of SFB-music. More about that in a week or two, but believe us, you won't be disappointed.Swedish for beginners: "höst" = autumn
Summer silence
2008-09-19 17:01:00
Yes, it's a bit of vacation for SFB, as you can tell. We'll be back with new music and new gigs as soon as we've had our fun in the sun.Swedish for beginners: "semester" = vacation
Even more Springbreak pics
2008-07-10 07:27:00
It's been a month, but still we get photos from fans. You are too kind! :)These were sent to us by Emelie, thanks!Do we look better when it's foggy?Tuning up between songs.
A few more fan pics
2008-06-23 10:46:00
A nice fellow named John sent us these two pics, snapped at Springbreak festival. It was a beautiful day! Btw, you may have noticed that Thomas doesn't quite look the same behind the keyboard. That's because it isn't him, it's Carl Johan. Thomas had the misfortune of having his brother getting married on that very day, which is why CJ had to fill in for him. And he did a very good job at that too. :)
Mixing is done!
2008-06-23 10:46:00
Back from Stockholm again, tired and happy. All six songs for the EP are mixed and both we and Ollie are very happy with the results. Now we just have to get it out there, and we hope you'll like it as much as we do when you hear it. Stay tuned.
Final mixing
2008-06-17 10:16:00
Finally! Tomorrow we're heading off for Stockholm to do the final mixing for the EP. Working in Cosmos studios with the mighty Ollie Olson, it'll be a blast. Literally. You won't believe the volume level this guy is mixing at. Call it trademark. We call it "tinnitus".Swedish for beginners: "mixa" = to mix
A few more Springbreak pics
2008-06-17 10:16:00
Here are a few pics from a fan perspective. Big thanks and shoutouts to Jossan who sent these to us! More photos are very welcome! It was a beautiful day. And the weather was nice too.On drums: Nico McBrain...sorry, Maniette.Johan inventing a new dance. Sort of.Most of the band while checking out Håkan.
Five down - one to go
2008-06-16 12:30:00
The second day of mixing is soon coming to an end. Five songs are finished, just one more to do. This City Is Not For Me is the last one, and while the preliminary mix that Ollie made a while ago is pretty kick-ass, this version will blow you away, guaranteed. Especially considering how great it's been going so far. *Patting ourselves hysterically on the back*Here's a crappy pic of Ollie at the helm. And the mighty SSL console at Cosmos...Swedish for beginners: "prylnörd" = gearhead

Here are a few snaphots from Springbreak festival in Kalmar last weekend. Enjoy. The tour bus could've been bigger......but Lisa wouldn't let that put her down. The guy your mother would like you to come home with.Lots of people watching Amanda, just waiting for SFB...The Värnamo posse.Don't drink any more, your face is getting blurred!Lisa on the dance floor.
The most anticipated release of 2008!
2008-06-08 16:18:00
Not counting the SFB ep (final mixing will be done next week!), this year's most anticipated release has to be the long overdue reissue of Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue. Originally released in 1977 it's by far the best solo effort by a Beach Boy (not counting Brian Wilson's SMiLE).It hits the stores on June 17th, meanwhile check out the official website.
Fotade du SFB på Springbreak?
2008-06-05 00:24:00

2008-06-05 00:24:00
Thank you, all who showed up at Sticky Fingers yesterday, the crowd was great! Tomorrow we're heading down south, to Kalmar and Springbreak Festival. In the meantime, enjoy this pic of SFB drummer Nico (to the left) hanging out with a fan after the gig. Such pretty boys!
Vi ses snart!
2008-06-05 00:24:00

Pearls before swine
2008-06-05 00:24:00
Out of the heaps of crap that oozed out of the European tv-sets this Saturday, this fantastic little tune emerged. In a perfect world, Sebastien Tellier would have swept away the ESC with a landslide victory. But, alas, the world isn't perfect, and the song - Divine - got a mere 19th spot. Out of 25. What is the world coming to...?Swedish for beginners: "pärlor för svin" = pearls before swine
